Hippocrates is said to have called olive oil, “the great healer,” and Homer purportedly deemed it, “liquid gold.” I call it, a delicious treasure. I chose this extra virgin olive oil because it is the best of the best. It is single cold pressed in small batches from olives grown and harvested in California. I am a true believer that you shouldn’t settle for less than Cold-Pressed Extra Virgin. This is the gold standard for olive oil, for both health benefits and taste. Among all the grades of olive oil, extra virgin is known for having the greatest amount of polyphenol compounds because it undergoes the least amount of processing. To be labeled “extra virgin,” olive oil must meet purity specifications that only the freshest and healthiest fruit can deliver. California is my go-to source for this high-quality olive oil, which has been certified 100 percent extra virgin by the California Olive Oil Council (COOC).

What I love most about the flavor: this olive oil has a hint of citrus with a slightly peppery finish.

My favorite way to enjoy this olive oil: Drizzle atop grilled or sauteéd meats or chicken, fresh vegetables, appetizers, soups and salads.

Definition of Extra Virgin: To be considered extra virgin, an olive oil first must be cold pressed. The cold pressing technique ensures that the olive juice is extracted naturally, without the use of chemicals or heat (at temperatures that could compromise the oil’s nutritional integrity). In addition, the olive juice must satisfy lab test standards for qualities like peroxide value and acidity. Extra virgin olive oil, for example, must contain no more than 0.8% free fatty acid. To qualify as extra virgin, an olive oil needs to impart excellent flavor and aroma, that is, it must taste like fresh olives.

    I have enjoyed olive oil for years, and this one is THE BEST one out there. It is SO good, I can eat it by itself with a spoon (and often do) since it’s so good for the heart, mind, skin and more. The flavor is rich and pure, distinct and luxurious. I can’t even bear to disguise it in cooking; instead, I use it on top of veggies, as a dressing, or with Vervana Olive Oil Dipping Blend spices and a fresh sourdough bread. Amazing…

    Vervana olive oil is a wonderfully versatile product. Delicious on its own for dipping bread, mix it up with your favorite vinegar and toss with some fresh greens for a delightfully light and flavorful salad dressing or use it to sauté some veggies with garlic!     I used Vervana olive oil for dipping with warm toasted ciabatta and artisan cheeses when I had company over. Everyone was delighted with its flavor, and I got all the credit!

    I thought olive oil was just olive oil but I was wrong! I added dried herbs to the oil and drenched chicken breasts before pan frying in the oil. Not only did the oil not burn off, but it made the chicken moist and tasty! Thank you for the free sample….you have the convert!
