Stephen Sinatra, M.D., F.A.C.C., F.A.C.N., C.N.S., C.B.T. is an integrative cardiologist who is board-certified in both cardiology and internal medicine, and has additional certifications in nutrition, bioenergetic psychotherapy, and anti-aging medicine. His expertise is grounded in over four decades of clinical practice, including 9 years as Chief of Cardiology and 18 years as Director of Medical Education at Manchester Memorial Hospital in Manchester, CT.
As a young doctor, Dr. Sinatra practiced what he calls, “revolving door medicine”…That is, he treated patients for acute cardiac events, only to see them again in the ER soon after. Something needed to change…Dr. Sinatra began to see that conventional medical therapies like pharmaceutical drugs and surgeries saved lives, but did not address the root of his patients’ health problems and often compromised their quality of life.
To help his patients truly heal, Dr. Sinatra started educating himself about alternative solutions, especially psycho-emotional and nutritional interventions. He soon integrated nutritional supplements, health-supporting foods, and stress-relief techniques like exercise and yoga into his conventional practice, and saw a big change in his patients’ health and well-being.
The challenges of helping his patients procure dietary supplements that met his standards for nutrition and ease of use proved challenging. So Dr. Sinatra begin formulating his own nutritional supplements, and has continued to do so for over 25 years.
In 1980s, Dr. Sinatra opened Natural Rhythms, a health food store with nourishing pantry staples and daily meals prepared on-site. He wanted people to understand the importance of eating clean, nutritious, and unprocessed foods, and that healthy foods were those which worked supported the body’s natural rhythms. Decades later, he would refer to such foods as “high vibrational foods.”
With obesity and chronic disease on the rise in the 1990s, Dr. Sinatra saw an urgent need for public education about healthy lifestyle habits. He began writing books, as well as a national newsletter, called Heart, Health and Nutrition, and soon after began offering general health advice online through articles and videos (at DrSinatra.com and HeartMDInstitute.com). To date, he has authored or coauthored over 20 books, including The Healing Kitchen, The Great Cholesterol Myth, and The Sinatra Solution: Metabolic Cardiology. He has been a featured guest on national radio and television shows including CNN, MSNBC, Fox on Health, the Dr. Oz, The Doctors, and 700 Club shows, and The Today Show.
Dr. Sinatra has also authored numerous medical periodicals and textbook chapters, and has lectured worldwide to other medical professionals. His dream is that traditional medical schools will one day offer dual degrees in medicine: Medical Doctor and Naturopathic Doctor degrees, so that the doctors of tomorrow will be trained to utilize the best of both medical approaches.
Dr. Sinatra’s view of health and wellness is that they are functions of energy – from the energy of what we put in and on our bodies, to the energies of our emotions and thoughts. Especially important are the foods and beverages we consume each day. Yes, so many consumers make unhealthy decisions when food shopping, mostly because they don’t know what to look for when choosing products and ingredients. Unfortunately, so many products on the market today are advertised as healthy, yet contain all sorts of preservatives, chemicals, added sugars and other stuff the body doesn’t need.
In 2016, Dr. Sinatra created Vervana Marketplace to help take the guesswork out of healthy food choices. He hand-selects all Vervana products for their exceptional quality and nutritional value, and personally scrutinizes the ingredients and production methods used to make them. Committed to clean eating and sustainability, Dr. Sinatra uses environmentally-friendly packaging whenever possible. He not only wants consumers to feel confident in their purchases; he also eats Vervana products, himself, on a (very) regular basis. Learn more about Vervana Marketplace>
